
An ecologically designed city quarter for living and working is currently being developed in China’s Qingdao, on the coast of the Yellow Sea, to plans by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The foundation stone will be laid on 6 December by Ernst Burgbacher, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Wang Chao, the Chinese Vice-Minister of Economics.

After a construction period of two and a half years, von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects (gmp) have completed the Tianjin West Railway Station in China. The new intersection, which is located about 130 kilometers south-west of Beijing, serves as a stop on the high-speed line between the Chinese capital and Shanghai.

The inauguration of the new Palacongressi di Rimini conference center will take place on 15 October 2011. The center, which was designed by von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects (gmp), who had already designed the Rimini exhibition center, was completed in 2010.

Following their success in winning first prize in an international competition, the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have been commissioned to realize a tower block complex of ten buildings in Nanjing. The design by gmp is or a financial enterprise center on a site of about 80,000 square meters in this large eastern Chinese metropolis.

To mark the occasion of the Universiade, which will take place from 12th to 23rd August 2011, the Universiade sports center and Bao’an stadium will be opened tomorrow in Shenzhen, southern China.

The twenty-storey Jiaming Center office block designed by Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners has been awarded gold-standard LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The sports complex was designed and built by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp), who won the competitive bidding in 2008, and constructed it in under two and a half years.

Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners will be represented by Cape Town Stadium/South Africa at the 2011 São Paulo Architecture Biennale, as part of the German contribution.

The German Lighting Design Prize 2011 was awarded in Cologne on 5th May 2011. The lighting design for the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban was awarded first prize in the International Project category. The lighting design was the work of the lighting-design firm Conceptlicht.

Four years after the foundation stone was laid, the Chinese National Museum in Beijing opens its doors to the public on 1st April 2011. The rebuilding and extension scheme to plans by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) combines the former Chinese History Museum and Chinese Revolutionary Museum.

Architects von Gerkan, Marg & Partners (gmp), in consortium with landscape architects Bernard & Sattler, have won the competition for the reconstruction of the Federal Environmental Office building in Bismarckplatz in Berlin.

The planned utilization scheme for the building drawn up under the direction of Prof. Meinhard von Gerkan means that this special location will once again be accessible to public cultural life.

Worms’s new Culture and Conference Center — designed and built by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) — along with the efurbished Spiel- und Festhaus theater will open with a special festival week marking the end of nearly three years’ construction.
