In addition to their function as archives, museum buildings have always been understood to be places of interaction and reflection. Likewise, aesthetic considerations have a high priority, given that the buildings portray their intended purpose to the outside. In celebration of the 100-year anniversary in 2019 of the foundation of the Bauhaus, the public conference of the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung focuses on the subject of contemporary new museum buildings. The conference takes place on 27 September, from 10:00 to 19:00.
Dipl.-Ing. Architect Nikolaus Goetze, Partner at gmp and Head of the Hamburg, Shanghai, and Hanoi offices, will speak from 11:45 to 12:15 on the diverse conceptual requirements for a 21st century museum. The construction of the Kunsthalle in Mannheim, which is currently being built, is used as a contemporary and succinct example in his lecture entitled “A city within the city”.
Entry is free of charge. Owing to the limited number of seats, we ask for registrations.
