The brick architecture of the new head-quarters located at the Duisburg river port was at the client’s request. It reflects the significance of Alltours as a solidly growing enterprise in the tourism industry. The building and its tower are clearly visible from a distance, whilst the brick façades moved to the line of sight simultaneously associate the firm’s permanence and solidity. Furthermore they maintain the material context regarding the surrounding warehouses and halls, which are visually reflected in the dammed water of the harbour basin.

The brick façades, which are allowed to develop patina and age with grace, also function as a thermal store, providing a comfortable interior climate in the naturally ventilated building. A transparent hall connects both office bars and is also used for customer events. The hall is conceived as a filigree steel-glass-structure, whilst its light and warm character results from the use of wood, light concrete walls and stone floors, which contrasts the robust exterior brick structure.

The alternation of steel, glass and brick was a sign of modern industrial buildings and is typical of the architecture in the Ruhr area.
