The Spandau Railway Station is part of the main-line service Hanover - Berlin and runs in an elevated position close to Spandau´s town hall.

It is developed with a ground-floor arcade for shopping and railway related functions. The main hall is 430 m long and completely covered with parallel vaulted roofs. Typologically this evokes links to historic station halls, as were presented in the exhibition "Renaissance of Railway Stations" by the Deutsche Bahn AG in Venice during the Biennale in 1996 - four years after the design of this concept.

While typology welcomes tradition, the construction is committed to the 21st century. The roof construction rests on longitudinal beams, supported by columns positioned at 18 m centres in the central axis of the platforms. The cross axis of each column holds curved stiffening ribs. The glass panel cladding vary slightly due to the complex geometry of the platforms, but nevertheless appear identical. The overall construction is stabilized by tensile cables, running diagonally below the roof surface.

Cantilevered lights at 3 m centres illuminate the platform level at night and create reflections in the glass vault with upward beams, resulting in an impressive spatial experience of the fine steel-glass structure.
