The site, which is just 60 meters wide but measures 220 meters in length, is located between a main traffic artery and a park to the west of Shanghai. The design follows the geometry of the plot, with a long drawn-out, dynamically angled building structure. Its four stories have been placed on two conically shaped plinth structures in fair-faced concrete in order to create access and views to the park area behind the building. The transparent facade, which features a double layer for the purpose of sound insulation, opens the view to the inner functions of the building. Both the building and facade structure feature strong horizontal elements, reflecting the dynamism of the traffic passing along the main road and creating a contrast with the more vertical features of the high-rise office buildings in the neighborhood.
