The re-design of this run-down building ensemble took inspiration on the one hand from the architecture of Riga’s historic market square buildings, and on the other from the autumnal colors of the birch tree foliage. Whilst the office tower was left untouched the car park on the site to be built on by gmp has also been retained for functional reasons, with the top deck being converted into a spacious conference hall. The new design is characterized by four office modules which overlap the parking volume. The facades are covered in grey granite and enhanced the character of the building by using two-story high vertical louvers in the warm shades of fall birch leaves. This gave the buildings what should become a recognizable and unique image. The open plan office spaces are all generously lit by daylight and benefit from views into the inner courtyards and a large roof garden on top of a section of the car park – to date it is the largest roof garden of its kind in Latvia.
