We are in the twenties! In an exciting homage, TRIO OHRENSCHMALZ is reminiscent of perhaps the best known boom and bust period of our time, the good and the bad of which, like the repertoire of the 1920s songs, has lost nothing of its topicality. With Reutter’s irony and much genuine wit, these Berlin artists affirm and admonish: things are on the up! In "In the olden days, it was…just like today!" Julius Hassemer (vocals), Angelika Feckl (violin) and Stefan Haberfeld (piano) play a highly enjoyable programme of old and modern classic favourites, as well as clever compositions of their own. A programme with style, stave rhyme – and Stroganoff, who else?

TRIO OHRENSCHMALZ has been making music in the style of the 1920s since 2003. Julius, Angelika and Stefan themselves are in their twenties, “from head to toe”, as they sing. They are part of a generation that is in love with the lifestyle and, above all, with the music of those years. Charming like Heesters, cynical like Reutter and jolly like Hollaender, they demonstrate how current and informative the lyrics of those days are still today.

They have made this style their own: they now write and compose their own contributions in the style of the 1920s, and draw on a rich repertoire of classic favourites of then and now.

Julius took lessons as a tenor with opera singer Esther Lee, and is currently working on his doctorate in gesture research at RWTH Aachen University. Angelika studied violin as part of a teacher training course at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2005 to 2009; she qualified with an arts diploma at the Liszt School of Music Weimar at the beginning of 2012 and played with the Kiel Theatre philharmonic orchestra during the 2011/12 season. Stefan studied at University of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" Potsdam-Babelsberg from 2005 to 2011; since then he has mostly been working as a freelance sound engineer.
