Building Culture Workshops 2017 "The Culture of Re-building"

 

According to current statistics, over 70 per cent of the building investments in Germany are made in refurbishment. Strategies for the further use of historically evolved built environments, including those of the post-war period, are high in demand. Kicking off the post-war modernism discussion, gmp partner Stephan Schütz will be presenting his keynote speech at Baukulturwerkstatt the refurbishment of the Kulturpalast in Dresden.

According to current statistics more than 70 per cent of the building investments in Germany are made in refurbishment of already existing buildings. Besides their economic and environmental benefits refurbishment and reconstruction are full of cultural and building innovations. Strategies for the further use of historically evolved built environments, including those of post-war modernism, are in high in demand.

For this reason the Bundesstiftung Baukultur (Federal Foundation of Building Culture) and StadtBauKultur NRW in North Rhine-Westphalia is organizing the Baukulturwerkstatt (Building Culture Workshop), “The Culture of Re-building” in Bochum. The event is offering keynote speeches on practical projects and roundtable discussions on possibilities and requirements of rebuilding.

Kicking-off the post-war modernism discussion, gmp partner Stephan Schütz will be presenting his keynote speech at Baukulturwerkstatt the refurbishment of the Kulturpalast in Dresden, an icon of Eastern modernist architecture, which includes the construction of a new concert hall within the preserved building shell. In a subsequent open roundtable participants can discuss questions and comments.
