From the first prize for the design of Berlin-Tegel Airport, which marked the beginning of the success story of gmp in 1965, to the master planning of the new Chinese city of Lingang New City and local projects in  his Hamburg domain, gmp’s approach always follows structural stringency, material coherence and formal thrift. More than 370 projects have already been completed following this philosophy, and over 310 prizes already have been won.

In the architects‘ talk with Hamburg’s “Freunde der Kunsthalle” on Tuesday, 26th September, from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, Volkwin Marg looks back on the history of the company. In doing so, he examines various projects which exemplify the approach of gmp and thereby also transpose the architect's view of the theory into practice. Especially in Hamburg, a large number of gmp buildings characterize the urban landscape, such as the Hanseviertel Shopping Center, the Zurich House or the roof of the inner courtyard in the Hamburg Museum. They all show how Volkwin Marg deals with the history as well as the future of Hamburg. However, stadium construction also plays an important role in Volkwin Marg's multi-faceted oeuvre. With great passion, many large-scale sporting venues have been created around the world, combining functionality and aesthetics.
