Competition for Kunsthalle Mannheim
The architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have been awarded the contract to design the new Kunsthalle Mannheim. This was the decision made by the Kunsthalle‘s jury in Mannheim on Monday 3 December 2012.

for the surgical centre of University Hospital Erlangen
For their design of the new surgical centre of University Hospital Erlangen the Aachen architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) were awarded first prize. The decision was made by the 13-strong jury after deliberating the merits of 17 submitted entries.

Grand Theater, Tianjin, China
The Grand Theater occupies the key position in the newly built Culture Park of Tianjin. The circular shape of the roof construction corresponds with the existing Museum of Natural History so that an architectural dialogue of an earth-bound and a “floating” circular volume is created to both ends of the park. Earth and sky represent a fundamental thinking in Chinese philosophy.

On 10 October 2012, Fraport and Lufthansa start operations in the xtension of gate A at Rhein-Main airport, Frankfurt, which has been designed and implemented by the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The inauguration will take place on 2 October.

International high-rise building prize, 2012
The finalists competing for the "International high-rise building prize, 2012", which has been organised by the City of Frankfurt am Main since 2004, have been selected. In addition, the jury has awarded special recognition for the revitalisation of the existing Deutsche Bank Towers (Frankfurt am Main), which was carried out by gmp in cooperation with Mario Bellini Architects.

On 13 September 2012, the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) inaugurated its new home in the premises of the former Nautical College in Hamburg at the Campus Rainvilleterrasse. Thus, the aac, whose goal is to support the education of young architects, will fulfill its role as an educational establishment.

Hamburg-Harburg Technical University extended by main building
Barely two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, Hamburg-Harburg Technical University will be inaugurating its new main building tomorrow, on time for the scheduled completion date. Designed by the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp), a new building comprising both historic and new parts has been created at the site of the former Schwarzenbergkaserne (Schwarzenberg Barracks).

The 2012 German lighting design prize was awarded in Hamburg on 24 May 2012. In the "International Project" category, the lighting design for the "Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center" in Shenzhen, China was awarded first prize. The lighting design was carried out by lighting designers Conceptlicht GmbH, Traunreut.

The Academic Senate of Hamburg’s HafenCity University (HCU) has unanimously decided to award an honorary doctorate in architecture to the well-known Hamburg architect and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit, Professor Volkwin Marg. The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 27 April at the Hamburg Town Hall.

The architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners have won first prize with their design for the new buildings of the Karlsruhe Medical Centre. The competition focused on the 2015 master plan and was open to 15 selected practices.

Hangzhou South Railway Station, China
Following their success in winning first prize in an international competition, the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have been commissioned to design the new southern railway station in Hangzhou. The project involves the conversion and extension of the station in the Xiao Shan district to the south of the Qiantang river; after the eastern and main railway stations it will be the third largest railway station of this metropolis.
