The architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have been awarded the contract to design the new Kunsthalle Mannheim. This was the decision made by the Kunsthalle‘s jury in Mannheim on Monday 3 December 2012.
For their design of the new surgical centre of University Hospital Erlangen the Aachen architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) were awarded first prize. The decision was made by the 13-strong jury after deliberating the merits of 17 submitted entries.
The Grand Theater occupies the key position in the newly built Culture Park of Tianjin. The circular shape of the roof construction corresponds with the existing Museum of Natural History so that an architectural dialogue of an earth-bound and a “floating” circular volume is created to both ends of the park. Earth and sky represent a fundamental thinking in Chinese philosophy.
On 10 October 2012, Fraport and Lufthansa start operations in the xtension of gate A at Rhein-Main airport, Frankfurt, which has been designed and implemented by the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The inauguration will take place on 2 October.
The finalists competing for the "International high-rise building prize, 2012", which has been organised by the City of Frankfurt am Main since 2004, have been selected. On 13 September 2012, the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) inaugurated its new home in the premises of the former Nautical College in Hamburg at the Campus Rainvilleterrasse. The 2012 German lighting design prize was awarded in Hamburg on 24 May 2012. In the "International Project" category, the lighting design for the "Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center" in Shenzhen, China was awarded first prize. The lighting design was carried out by lighting designers Conceptlicht GmbH, Traunreut.

The Academic Senate of Hamburg’s HafenCity University (HCU) has unanimously decided to award an honorary doctorate in architecture to the well-known Hamburg architect and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit, Professor Volkwin Marg. The aac spring workshop was focused on the Japanische Palais—the last element in Dresden’s museum landscape that still requires refurbishment. Under the guidance of Meinhard von Gerkan and Stephan Schütz, the students developed designs that open the building towards Neustadt and the River Elbe, and convert the Japanische Palais into a “working collection” in which the general public is involved in the process of artistic creation. From August 15 the results will be shown in an exhibition in Dresden.
The 14th edition of the JUNG Architecture Talks in Freiburg on 11 July, 2019 is devoted to the topic "Modular + Serious". Bernd Gossmann, associate partner at gmp, is part of the panel and will talk about his experiences with the planning of a temporary school building in modular timber construction in Frankfurt's Westend.

On 4 February, Volkwin Marg will speak at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce about gmp construction projects in Kazakhstan and China at the event The New Silk Road. In his 30-minute lecture, Volkmar Sievers introduces the Kunsthalle Mannheim and the headquarters of the Hengdian Group in Hangzhou, as well as the door handle that was used in both projects.
