“Designing in Dialogue” is opening its doors at yet another location: Since September 12th, a selection of projects has been on display at the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University (THAD), modelled after the comprehensive touring exhibition of the same name. Dipl.-Ing. Architect BDA Stephan Schütz, a gmp partner and head of the Berlin, Beijing, and Shenzhen offices, and Dipl.-Ing. Architect Stephan Rewolle, a gmp associate partner, opened the exhibition with a supplementary lecture. Dipl. Arch. ETH Wu Wei, partner and representative of gmp in China, emphasized the exemplary cooperation with the THAD Institute.
The compact show, which has already appeared in its entirety at the Chinese National Museum in Beijing, in Nanjing (China), Vietnam, Brazil, and Chile, is primarily dedicated to current buildings in the implementation phase. It features international gmp projects including, for example, Bund SOHO Shanghai, the Suzhou Industrial Park Sport Center, the Suzhou Library, the Guangzhou Museum, and the Kunsthalle Mannheim. The Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) based in Hamburg is also presented in a separate area. With its research studies and courses, this private, nonprofit organization launched by the architects at von Gerkan, Marg und Partners focuses on relevant architectural issues and the further education of young architects from different cultural regions.
THAD itself invited “Designing in Dialogue” to the campus of China’s renowned national Tsinghua University. Since its founding in 1958, the Architectural Design and Research Institute has been committed to instruction and research in the area of design. As a partner office of gmp, it currently employs over 500 people.
