The exterior of architecture means place, environment and the architecture itself, while the interior involves inner spirit, interior space, detail, material and color. Masterpieces, such as the Pilgrimage Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut at Ronchamp by Le Corbusier, Kimbell Art Museum by Louis Isadore Kahn, Heritance Kandalama by Geoffrey Bawa, and San Cristobal by Luis Barragan, embody the perfect integration of the building form, skin, space, material, color and even furniture and landscape. However, the architectural design of many buildings in China stops at the building form and skin – leaving the material, color and furniture that defines the interior features to the interior designers and resulting in poor connection between the interior and the exterior. As the decision-making power of architects grows, it is very likely that architects can extend their design philosophy from the exterior to the interior, or simply develop the building itself into space and atmosphere to blur the boundary and achieve consistency.
Invited by <Architecture Technique> magazine, Mr. Wu Wei will give a lecture on the occasion of Cross the “Boundary” - the Integration of Architecture and Interior Forum on 24th November in Beijing. By introducing gmp projects, including offices, theater, sports facilities, Mr. Wu will explain how the integration of architecture and interior design works.
