Exhibition and Events Hall, Bielefeld, Germany

On 9th September, 16 months of construction work on the new extension to the town hall in Bielefeld was completed with a ceremony at which Mayor Pit Clausen gave a speech.

With an area of 3,400m², the Events and Exhibition Hall can accommodate up to 5,000 visitors. Among other functions, it will provide space for product presentations during conferences taking place in the adjacent town hall.

Like the town hall dating from 1990, the extension was designed by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp).

The core feature of the 90m-long hall is a single-storey events floor almost 40m wide spanned by unsupported wooden arches. The usable floor area is supplemented on the ground floor by the entrance lobby with a gallery on top linked to the town hall and the neighboring hotel. Top lights with casements in the 23m high semi-circular roof provide natural lighting for the interior as well as natural ventilation.
