Informations on the exhibition
"Paul Bonatz 1877-1956 -
Leben und Bauen zwischen Neckar und Bosporus"
The Kunsthalle in Tübingen is currently hosting an exhibition about the life and buildings of architect Paul Bonatz (1877–1965) called Leben und Bauen zwischen Neckar und Bosporus. The exhibition focuses particularly on Bonatz’s most notable work, Stuttgart’s main railway station (1911–1927). Because of measures already instituted in connection with the Stuttgart 21 programme – leading to the listed building being partially demolished – the station building currently provides a broad basis for a debate about historic value.
As part of the programme accompanying the exhibition, Meinhard von Gerkan will be talking about transport buildings and urban planning (Verkehrsbauten und Stadtplanung) on Saturday 14th May. He will be speaking from personal experience in Stuttgart - in 1994, gmp also submitted a design.
