With their design for “Haus 24” the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) were able to swing the jury’s vote in their favor. On the site of the NDR (North German Radio station) in Lokstedt the existing ensemble will be extended with a new building that constitutes the first module of the planned extension.
The 2019 autumn workshop of the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) focused on the question as to what a design of a temporary home for the Frankfurt Opera could look like. Under the guidance of Meinhard von Gerkan and Stephan Schütz, the international scholarship students developed designs for a temporary home for the Opera at Bockenheimer Warte which, together with the existing Bockenheimer Depot, could further enhance this area as a cultural hub. The results will be exhibited at the DAM (German Architecture Museum) in Frankfurt from January 24, 2020.
Today, Meinhard von Gerkan, founding partner of gmp, is celebrating his 85th birthday. Starting with the large Berlin Tegel Airport project in the 1960s, von Gerkan has made a significant contribution to architecture in the Federal Republic of Germany. Today, gmp is one of the largest German architectural practices, with an international presence and over 500 employees.

On Monday 8 December 2014, Volkwin Marg will speak at the “Literarische Salon” in Hannover on the architecture of sports stadiums.
On Thursday, 4 December 2014, Meinhard von Gerkan will give a lecture at Tongji CAUP, in a ceremony for conferring him as Advisory Professor of Tongji University. All colleagues are all welcome to attend.

As part of the “South East Asia Airport Expansion Summit”, Nikolaus Goetze will speak in Hanoi on “Past & Future – Airport Architecture by gmp” on Monday, 25 August 2014.
gmp has designed the old and the new airport for Berlin. The former, Tegel, is still praised, the latter, Berlin Brandenburg, has still not been opened. It seems that it is not possible to approach the future of airport construction responsibly without knowing its past. Meinhard von Gerkan, Hartmut Mehdorn, Robert Grosch and Philipp Bouteiller provide remininscences, assessments and pleas.
On Friday 14 March 2014, Volkwin Marg will speak at the international symposium “Health Care of the future – Healing Architecture + Communication” in Berlin. As part of the event Volkwin Marg will talk on the subject “Architecture + Health”.
