In the north of Majorca, in a secluded valley between Campanet and Pollença, the von Gerkan couple purchased a finca, which is located on a ledge like an eyrie, offering a breath-taking view over half of the island and towards the Bay of Alcudia.
For the family of six and guest as well as the yearly partner meeting of the von Gerkan, Marg und Partner practice the generous older house was yet too small.
Therefore an addition in form of a second "Finca" was realized within the maximum development limits, which demand a site area of 15 hectares for 500 m² floor area.
The roof pitch and roofing tiles were specified. The exterior walls are plastered. All timber components (doors, windows, shutters, built-in units, lamps, and movable pieces of furniture) are made from aubergine-coloured Betoplan panels; the timber structure visible on the inside and outside is made from locust wood. The floor from continuous floorboards with neoprene joints is reminiscent of a ship’s deck. The interior walls are finished with a stucco structure.
A 60 m² large hall is located in the centre of the new building, offering a view over the valley and towards a fountain on the opposite side facing the mountain.
