The office building of Deutsche Rentenversicherung (German Statutory Pension Insurance) on the plot at Eisenzahnstrasse 32 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf has been arranged in the form of a spine-and-fingers layout consisting of five tracts with landscaped yards between them. On the side facing the street, a light-colored brick facade has been wrapped around the edges of the building. The fenestration bands with their dark external framing follow this shape through five upper stories, while the basement floor with its reduced number of openings behind the lowered terrain appears more closed. The administration building with a floor area of 25,000 square meters includes space for offices, the computer center, the print shop and the central DRV mail office – providing workplaces for 1,055 employees. The middle section of the building accommodates the porter’s lodge, a waiting area, and the foyer. The design of the landscaping adopts the same clear architectural style as that of the building – the slightly drawn-in area in front of the main entrance of the new building is covered with paving slabs of a similar material to those of the entrance hall in order to generate aesthetic continuity. The fifth facade surface (the roof) has been designed to support extensive roof greening.
